The site now known as Bentley Bridge Shopping Park Wolverhampton was acquired in 1992 for the new Co-op Superstore where Sainsbury's now sits. As the development progressed further, land was provided to allow for a larger car park.

In close proximity is the Wyrley and Essington canal providing a pleasant walk. Previously the site during the 1900's was part of the Industrial Revolution including a company known as Graisley Works Animal Traps and Galvanisers as well as providing horse riding equipment. Also on this site a large pipe works operated.

The land and factories in later years were used for many different businesses including several business parks. During 1980's-1990's the land was blighted by the local authority putting compulsory purchase orders on various premises in Rookery Street which at the time was the main road fronting the site.

The proposal by the Transport Department was to run the new metro route from Wolverhampton through Wednesfield and have a station on the site where Bentley Bridge sits today . Later on the scheme was scrapped which made way for the current Bentley Bridge Shopping Park providing household names such as: Costa, KFC, Nando's, Bella Italia, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Chiquito, Subway, Aldi, Cineworld and a swimming baths.
